SK Austria Klagenfurt
Wörthersee Stadion - Klagenfurt, Carinthia
Capacity: 32,000
Opened: 2007
Address: Südring 207, 9020 Klagenfurt am Wörthersee
The Wörthersee Stadion is a strange beast. A beautiful stadium erected for EURO 2008, it's now home to Bundesliga football, with Austria Klagenfurt plying their trade in the top flight since 2021. It hosts the domestic cup final (despite the 2019 edition trying hard to get away), and almost got a new lease of life as local(ish) side Wolfsberg's Europa League ground...except there was a massive arboretum put in there, which Leonardo DiCaprio was keen on. No, really.
In the end WAC did end up moving European matches to this ground, as did - bizarrely - LASK for a brief and successful (if empty) spell in the UECL. Austria's international qualifiers here set unwanted records for lowest turnouts (1800, anyone?) but that was more to do with the fact that the chance of qualification was long gone, so we can't blame the stadium! In happier news, the likes of Real Madrid and AC Milan have had fans flocking to the ground for summer friendlies in recent years.
Incidentally, the Wörthersee Stadion might be the only stadium to be replicated in two continents, as the Red Bull Arena in Harrisburg, New Jersey is an exact copy!
